GUIDE
Organize your pantry with what you already have
Set up pantry zones your whole family can follow, using the jars, baskets and bins already in your home. No matching containers required.
Empty one shelf at a time
Working shelf by shelf keeps the kitchen usable while you go. As you take things out, check dates and group like with like on the counter: baking, breakfast, snacks, pasta and grains, canned goods, sauces and spices.
Decide your zones
Zones are simply categories with a fixed home. Put the ones you reach for most at eye level and the ones you use least on the top shelf. Snacks the kids may take on their own go low, where they can reach them.
- Eye level: everyday breakfast, lunch and dinner staples
- Lower shelves: snacks and lunchbox items
- Top shelf: baking supplies, holiday items and backstock
- Floor: heavy items like bulk bags, water and drinks
Contain with what you own
Baskets, glass jars, shoe-box lids and spare bins all make good pantry containers. What matters is that each category stays together and you can see what is there. Line items up front to back so the oldest gets used first.
Label every zone
A simple label on the shelf edge or the bin tells everyone in the house where groceries go. It is the step that keeps the system working after the first week.
Reset after each grocery run
When you unpack, take a minute to put each item in its zone and move older items forward. That small habit is what makes a pantry stay organized.
